Japanese Companies To Standardize Electric Car Fast-Charging Stations

Anyone who remembers the (still-ongoing) fiasco that is charging adapters on smartphones can see the potential for similar issues as electric cars or plug-in hybrids become more popular. Thus, it’s good to see at least an initial move in the direction of standardization: Japanese automakers Toyota and Nissan announced on Monday they have helped to set up a fast-charge station standardization group.

Weekend iPad pre-orders seen to drop sharply

Daniel Tello, a Venezuelan blogger-analyst, has been tracking order numbers submitted by volunteers at Investor Village’s AAPL Sanity board. While Friday numbers seemed to indicate 25,000 pre-orders per hour, his estimates on pre-orders on Saturday and Sunday show a slowing to about 1,000 per hour.

Readers won’t pay for online news: Pew Research

The Pew Research Project’s State of the News Media 2010 report shows some dismal news for newspapers, like the New York Times, that plan to charge for online news. Of those surveyed, only 7 percent said they would be willing to pay for access to any news site.

U.S. stem cell expert is hottest researcher

Rudolf Jaenisch, whose stem cell lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has consistently broken new barriers in the field, is the world’s “hottest” researcher, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

SpaceX hails ’successful’ Falcon 9 test

By Irene Klotz Cape Canaveral, Florida – Space Exploration Technologies successfully test fired its Falcon 9 rocket this weekend, clearing a milestone toward the inaugural flight of a privately developed spaceship to fly cargo, and possibly astronauts, into orbit, the company said.

It’s Pi Day, so eat some cake!

It’s March 14th, so at least in the U.S., it’s 3/14 or Pi Day. Truly, since pi is an irrational number, it’s not “rational” to pick a calendar day to celebrate it at all, as it cannot be finitely expressed, but that takes all the fun out of it. March 14th is also the birthday of Albert Einstein to add to the fun.
