would Fishing Weights be toxic if used on a weight vest?
Im making a weight vest, and I was thinking about using some fishing weights to weigh it down. Im wondering if the lead in the fishing weights is gunna be a problem. Will it still be toxic if I were to wrap it in duct tape, or put it in a ziplock bag, and then ductape.
I am not certain if the use of lead in a vest will be 100% risk free. After all, you are dealing with sweat (containing salt and acid which will promote oxidation) and lots of friction. If you are worried, you could always spray coat of paint to completely cover those lead sinkers. This way, you don’t have to worry about lead oxide from oxidation and lead dust from friction. If you decided to paint those lead sinkers, the use of oil based primer is recommended for better adhesion. Better yet, you could purchase scuba weights that were already coated.
